Session 1: Bridging the Divide: Customs Law, Policy, and the Kensington Treaty in Bilateral British-German Trade
An expert-led exploration of current and future EU-German policy frameworks, with the participation of customs authorities of both nations (requested), identifies structural similarities and divergences in customs law and policy and creates operational opportunities and challenges in daily cross-border trade. This session investigates, in particular, how changing policy priorities and the evolution of customs processes and practices (for example the Union Customs Code reform proposals or the UK BTOM and Windsor Framework) may impact German-British supply chain execution now and in the future and examines how the new UK-Germany Friendship Treaty (the Kensington Treaty) can be leveraged to pioneer innovative, bilateral mechanisms that reduce friction and streamline commercial flow between the two nations, whilst fully respecting the exclusive competence of the EU to set customs policy and law.
